Robin- Vernon Counsellor
Registered Social Worker
I frequently say that finding a good counsellor is like trying to find a good hairdresser. First, they must listen to what you want. They have to be creative, and you have to be comfortable with them. Sometimes it takes a while, but when you find the right one, it is fantastic!
Counselling is a very personal experience. You will be required to work hard. You should know that I work hard too. I work hard to understand you and the goals that you will want to work on. I work hard to see things from the unique perspective of a helping professional. I promise that I will meet you where you are at, and while I may challenge you, I will respect your boundaries and the pace at which you want to work.
I have a pretty good sense of humour and have had people wonder aloud if “we were really working in there” as all they heard was laughter. In saying that, I am not uncomfortable with much and no matter the situation that brings you in, I am confident that we can discuss it, set goals and work together to get you where you want to be.
I am a social worker by trade and have had the unbelievably good fortune of working in the field of counselling. I work with children, youth, adults, families and couples. I like to look at things from a systems perspective and work hard to really listen and understand.
You can tell by my picture that this is not my first rodeo. I bring more than twenty-five years of working with people to the table. I am trained in so many things, including trauma response, systems theory, family assessment training, solution-focused therapy, violence and threat risk assessment, crisis response training….the list goes on. I love to learn, and you will frequently find me with my nose in a book researching new information or listening to podcasts to learn new strategies.
I am that person that tends to run towards the “fire”. If there is a situation or a problem, I look for ways to help. I was one of the professionals who responded to the Humboldt Broncos bus accident and spent a week there working alongside many amazing people.
Enough about work. I am thrilled to be part of the community of Vernon and consider myself blessed to be able to call this city home. I try to be outside much of the time and love to hike, kayak, ski, snowshoe, and I am learning to mountain bike.
I have two adult kids of whom I am incredibly proud. I have been married to a great man for ages. He is the best, and we love to adventure together. I am also a dog mom. His name is Clyde, and I am happy to have him as my trusty sidekick.
If I sound like a fit for you, please reach out. I would love to meet you.
